Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs)

It would be easy to think that stand up paddle boarding is a new water sport, but it’s actually an ancient form of surfing from the Polynesian heritage. Beginners can become comfortable in the first hour. Using a long paddle and standing up you can just cruise along.

It can be a meditative experience on a calm day. Both Paddle Boards and Kayaks can offer a good upper body workout as well as cardiovascular conditioning.

Easy and Fun!

First timers will enjoy the challenge of balance. The built-in deck grip provides maximum traction. The benefit of a good workout is an unexpected bonus. It is faster and easier to learn than it looks.

Join in on the fun of this new growing sport. Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is a great way to enjoy a day on Lake Norfork . It's a relatively easy activity to learn, and it's a great way to relax on the water or get a workout for your core, arms, and legs.  With a little practice, you'll be paddling around the lake like a pro in no time!

Paddleboards are for use only on Lake Norfork.  It is too dangerous to paddle board on the Norfork River or White River.

Here are a few tips for getting started:

Start by kneeling on the board and get comfortable paddling before you try to stand up.

When you're ready to stand up, place your feet shoulder-width apart and keep your knees slightly bent.

Use a long, slow paddle stroke to propel yourself forward.

Don't be afraid to fall in! It's all part of the learning process.

Kayak & Canoe Info:

Kayak Fishing Float Trip: Adventure on the Norfork Lake or River…

Imagine this: You glide along scenic Norfork River or Norfork Lake, the sun warming your back and the gentle current guiding your path. But this isn't just a leisurely float trip – you're a stealthy angler on a kayak, casting a line and waiting for that thrilling tug.

A Norfork or White River kayak fishing float trip combines the serenity of a scenic journey with the excitement of outsmarting fish in their natural habitat.

A Unique Blend of Relaxation and Challenge:

  • Peaceful Exploration: Float down tranquil stretches of scintillant water, soaking in the beauty of nature. Observe birds soaring overhead, watch playful otters on the bank, and feel the rhythm of the water beneath you.
  • Angling Adventure: Become one with the river as you cast your line into promising spots. The challenge of fishing from a kayak adds a new dimension to the sport – you'll need finesse and focus to land that trophy catch.

Gearing Up for Success:

  • Choose Your Float: Pick Norfork River or Norfork Lake…both well known for the fish you dream of catching, whether it's feisty bass, wily trout, or colorful catfish. Research water flow – gentle for beginners, swifter for experienced paddlers.
  • Fishing Arsenal: Pack your trusty fishing rod and reel, tackle box filled with lures and bait, a net to land your catch, and a cooler (if regulations allow keeping your fish).
  • Kayak Ready: Y cabin’s fishing kayaks come equipped for your angling and floating adventure. Kayaks have features like rod holders, tackle compartments, and places to store and tie off your gear.

The Thrill of the Catch:

  • Silent Stalking: Unlike noisy motorboats, kayaks allow you to navigate silently, getting closer to hidden fish in the coves and underbrush.
  • Hook, Line, and Fight: The moment your line goes taut, adrenaline surges. The fight to reel in your catch from a kayak adds another layer of excitement to the experience.
  • Respecting the Catch: Always follow fishing regulations regarding size limits, catch quotas, and proper handling of fish.

A Journey of Relaxation and Responsibility:

  • Breaks and Bites: Take time to soak in the scenery, savor delicious snacks, and rehydrate with refreshing drinks.
  • Leave No Trace: Remember to be a responsible outdoorsman. Pack out all your trash and leave the river pristine for future adventurers.

Plan Your Adventure:

  • Dress for the Elements: Wear comfortable, quick-drying clothes and a hat. Pack layers for changing weather. Consider wading boots for getting in and out of the kayak on uneven terrain.
  • Safety First: File a float plan with someone on land, detailing your route and estimated return time. Check weather forecasts and water conditions before heading out.

A kayak fishing float trip is an unforgettable experience for adventure seekers who love the thrill of fishing and the tranquility of nature. So, grab your gear, cast off, and get ready for an adventure unlike any other!

Having picnic lunch on the riverbank

The length of your float trip will depend on the length of the river section you're paddling and how fast you're going. Most float trips are a few hours long, but they can be longer or shorter depending on your preferences.

When you reach your takeout point, you'll take out your kayak and unload your gear. If you rented your kayaks, the rental company will usually pick you up at this point.

Float trips are a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. They're also a relatively inexpensive activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you're planning a river kayaking float trip:

Be sure to check the weather conditions before you go. You don't want to get caught on the river in a storm.

Wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. You'll be spending a lot of time in the sun.

Bring plenty of water and snacks. You'll get thirsty and hungry from paddling.

Dress in clothes that you don't mind getting wet. You may get splashed or even fall in the river.

Let someone know where you're going and when you expect to be back.

Be respectful of other paddlers and the environment. Leave no trace and follow all local regulations.

With a little planning, you can have a safe and enjoyable river kayaking float trip.
