Norfork & White Rivers

Abundant Trophy Trout!

Fishing is exceptional for four species of trout—brook, rainbow, cutthroat, and brown. Record-breaking trophy catches of the norfork River include a world-record German brown trout caught in 1988 that weighed almost 39 pounds.

This five-mile stretch of water has produced literally hundreds of 10-pound-plus brown trout, including a 34-pounder and a 38-pound, 9-ounce former world record that is still the second-largest brown trout ever recorded, worldwide. The current state-record brook trout (5 pounds) also came from the Norfork.

It’s an excellent stream for boaters and bank fishermen alike. The mainstay of the norfork is stocking-sized rainbows, just as it is on all the state’s other trout waters. Most fish caught here are rainbows from 11 to 14 inches long. The Norfork is the best cutthroat trout fishery in Arkansas. Five-pounders are common. Stream-running walleye are also found in the Norfork.

Norfork Lake

Unleash Your Inner Angler

Looking to snag a trophy fish and ditch the frustration? Our guided Lake Norfork fishing trips put you on the fish, not just empty promises. While strippers are a popular catch (folks love them!), Lake Norfork offers a bounty of species to reel in, including bass, walleye, crappie, and catfish.

Prime Walleye Hunting

Lake Norfork boasts a healthy walleye population, with many fish reaching an impressive 5-7 pounds. Often overlooked compared to bass, these elusive fish surprise even seasoned divers with their size and abundance. Whether trolling in summer or jigging in cooler months, you can target these delicious fish year-round.

Crappie Paradise

Spring and fall (March-April and September-October) are prime times to cast your line for crappie. Our guests consistently brag about catching some of the biggest crappie they've ever seen! The Arkansas Game & Fish Department's yearly addition of brush pile fish covers creates a thriving crappie habitat, making them a joy to catch throughout the year.

Bass Bonanza

No introduction needed – the bass fishing on Lake Norfork is legendary. From spring to fall, you'll have no trouble hooking into these feisty sportfish. Catch-and-release is highly encouraged, and witnessing the joy of a successful release is a reward in itself.

Striped Bass Glory

For over 30 years, the Arkansas Game & Fish Department has stocked Lake Norfork with striped bass. Thriving on the lake's abundant shad population, these striped beauties reach an average weight of 16 pounds, with the lake record hovering around 50 pounds! Target them year-round, with peak season falling in the cooler months (fall, winter, and spring).

Y Cabins is located in the Premier Striper waters near the Dam where the Big Stripers can be found yearly. Especially in the Spring, this resort is centrally located for easy access to all Species of Fish.

Dry Run Creek

Teach the kids to fly fish!

Dry Run Creek, located next to the Norfork National Fish Hatchery in Arkansas, is a haven for families looking to introduce their children to the joys of trout fishing.  The creek’s easy access, gentle current, and abundant fish population make it a perfect place for a kid-friendly fishing experience.

A truly special fishing experience for young anglers

Dry Run Creek is produced from the outflow of the adjoining Norfork National Fish Hatchery. This short stretch of nutrient-rich water has an excellent trout population, and it has been set aside as a special catch-and-release stream for children under 16 and for properly licensed disabled anglers.

Dry Run Creek is well stocked with large rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Only artificial lures with a single, barbless hook may be used, and fishing is from sunrise to sunset only and adults must accompany their children.

Booking & Cancellation

Y Cabins operates year round with a group of professional, full-time fishing guides. We understand that unforeseen situations may arise beyond our control, which sometimes affect travel plans. We believe in a fair approach to cancellations.

Our cancellation policy is such that it protects the minimum livelihoods of our guides, in the event that a scheduled guide trip was canceled. In some situations we allow deposits from canceled trips to be “Rain Checked” toward future trip bookings.

Guides fish rain or shine…but not when it is lightning.

One of our jobs as outfitters and guides is to help judge weather, rainfall amounts, river levels and water clarity for our fishermen’s safety and decent fishing conditions.

Bad weather or poor river conditions do not necessarily warrant a “Rain Check”...These conditions can come and go reasonably quick!

Because of the “flushing” nature of the “Tail Water” generated from the Dams… River conditions can be back to normal, in 24-48 hours.

  • A deposit of 50% of the trip is required to book a guided trip for non-guests

  • A deposit of $100 per Trip is required for registered cabin guests to book a guided trip(s).

  • Guide trips canceled 14 days prior to the trip date, will be refunded in full.

  • Guide trips canceled 13 days to 7 days of the trip date will result in a charge of 50% of the trip's, unless the trip is resold for the guide who will lose the trip or the trip rain checked.

  • Guide trips canceled less than 7 days will forfeit the initial 50% deposit or full $100 deposit.

  • Only your fishing guide may cancel your guided trip within 24 hours of your scheduled trip date due to dangerous weather or water conditions or mechanical breakdown.  In these events, a refund or rain check will be issued.

  • Rain Checks will be considered by individual situation and circumstance.

  • Cancellations may be made by phone or email.Cancellations are not accepted without a reply from us!

  • Please do not fully trust the weather channel forecasts!

SPORTFISHING

SPORTFISHING is the preferred style of guiding at the Y Cabins. It is a true art form, using only artificial lures and flies to reel in the catch of the day. Each fishing style has its own unique advantages and disadvantages that can be impacted by various river conditions, making every experience unique and enjoyable.
